OK, rookie question of the day. What type of lower unit oil does a Volvo 280 use??? The manual says sae 10w-30 Is that right? or should I go with a HI-VIS lower unit gear lube. Do not want to find out the hard way I made a mistake. I called west marine, boaters world and specialty marine and no one was sure. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
Go with the manual. I used to have a volvo 270 out drive and used 30 wt. with no problems. If you want to sweeten it up put some synthetic oil in it. It`s a better oil
You may want to check on the synthetic lube. I have 280's and was told that they will not stand synthetic oils. Give Grant over at Sea and Ski a call, (949) 646-7813, he'll point you in the right direction.
