Default What are the new posting rules?

I can't find the FAQ's or "Posting Rules" but I guess I don't know what the rules are for posting here?

I'm one of the few people who posts their off-subject messages (hunting/shooting, nonsensical stuff, etc.) on the "Non-everything Board" and typically I'm one of the few people who does such.

I posted a hunting report and video clip on that board and my post was missing the next morning. So, I PM'ed the moderator asking why. It's been a couple of days and I have received no answer/response so it leads me to ask: What are the new rules for posting here?

I've been posting here since before Mel took me fishing on the original "Weekdays Blues" Charters with BobO, Swazi, XLobsterman, etc. so if I don't know the rules, I'm sure many of the newer people don't either.

Scientists are still trying to figure out how posts are moderated here. Professors from MIT have been trying to come up with a new chaos theory based on this, but the complexity and dynamics have them baffled.

Gee Frank, I figured that we were fortunate that they allow folks from Kern County to post at all!

Frank- you ask an excellent question. The rules are not new. They have been around for a long time. From time to time either Don or I have reiterated them in a post. However, they are published on the page where you register. I think they need to be posted in a more prominent and accessible place.

I have been working on this for a few weeks. One of the problems I run into is that when a rule is expressed there always seems to be a way to get around it for those bent on doing so.

Our basic philosophy of posting is fairly simple: please be courteous and moderate. Please be an adult and conduct yourself as an invited guest in someone's home or pleace of business. Personal attacks are not allowed.
If you have a beef with someone keep it private, by PM or email.
Vulgar and obscene language is not allowed. Sexual innuendo is discouraged. We know that some find it humorous but it just is not appropriate for this website. We ask that you use the topic specific boards where possible.

Please bear in mind that if a moderator moves a post from one board to another, that is not intended as any kind of personal insult.

I have looked at the posting policies from numerous other sites (both fishing and non fishing related). Ours are among the least stringent.

We want Allcoast to be a friendly and welcoming site for people to gather and discuss things. We have to provided areas where non-fsihing items can be discussed.

There are some who think any policy or restriction is too much. There are others who think the policies are too lax. And there are some who feel the enforcement is not consistent ( it appears they are right and we are working on making that better).

While I agree that moderation is "uneven" from board to board, it's really not rocket science.

We prefer to leave things alone unless we are forced to deal with serious flame and/or indecency.

Of course, mods decisions can be trumped by the owner at any time. That's to be expected.

Some moderators are just more lenient or strict than others, in terms of off-topic posts. I'm pretty lenient; if it's about boats, things that tow boats, or any remotely associated with boats, I let it go on the tech board. On the Mexico board, if it's about anything from Latin America, I'll let it go. Haven't really had any issues on the sports board. We tend to rib each other over there quite a bit.

But it's nothing compared to the political board. I think everyone understands that it's the Wild West over there. Much like politics in the real world.

To Frank O.; occasionally posts do simply disappear into thin air. Occasionally, the software double-posts a post. It's rare, but we have seen it happen.

Default New Rules - Not Really

I'm with Captain Hook on this one. If your post on the Non-Everything Board disappeared, it is highly unlikely that a moderator deleted it. I almost never read that board. In my experience doing so will drive you crazy or make you go blind. However, when it comes to software, shiznet happens.

Hawk is right too. There have always been a few simple rules here. But, the rules tend to be overlooked at times. The newbies are more likely to follow them than the rest of us. Quite often, moderators will simply move threads to the Non-Everything Board rather than make a judgment call. That is where everything goes that nobody wants to delete or deal with.

I could be wrong, but I'm not aware of a post or thread being deleted once it finds it way to the Non-Everything Board.
