re: Great friend Passed Harvey "The Hook" Seagal

Harvey was one of the good guys. I met him at the landing before my first long range trip on the Q105 back in 2001. We went to breakfast and he told me a few stories. On that trip he took me under his wing and taught me how to ring hooks and about bait selection. I went on two 10 day trips with him in 2005 or 2006 and really noticed how much his condition had changed. This is a sad day!He will be missed.

I have fished with Harvey many time on the Qualifier 105. He taught me many things about Long Range fishing. He always sat on his padded fishing box just to the left side of the Galley entrance. That was HIS SPOT when he was on the boat.

I have not seen him for a few years, and I was told he was ill. I am sorry to hear about his death. I will MISS him.

Sorry to hear about Harvey.

I meet Harvey on my first 10 dayer on the Q105. It was a last minute trip alone and I knew no one on the boat. Harvey showed me how to tie the Worm Knot and other things. He did it with his bare hands and it came out perfect. I tried to tie with my bare hands and cried in pain.

You'll be missed.

Sh*t, I could write a book about Harvey.

An amazing man who led an amazing life.

I had gotten an email from his wife, Lisa, about a month ago.
She told me he was in hospice with pancreatic cancer so I knew the end was near.

Funny, just yesterday I was out in the garage getting ready for a trip this weekend, and in going thru my tackle bag, I had a chance to fondle some of the Penn/Baker-ed reels I picked up from him in the last year or so.
Found a pic my wife snapped of the two of us, me holding an old hickory kite rod that I bought from him on one of my visits to purchase items from his huge collection of deep sea fishing gear.

Live while you can.
I'm probably not going to make the service, I'm trying to get a fishing trip going this weekend. Given the choice between the two, I'm pretty sure Harvey would say, "Go Fishing!"

re: Great friend Passed Harvey "The Hook" Seagal

I am so sorry to hear this. I have been on many trips with Harvey.
I have not heard from him in just over a year.

If someone hears about the services PLEASE e mail me at:

themacs@ix.netcom.com

Or PM me please.

He had a boat in Long Beach and lived on it at times.

We had many great times together. He has been in my home a bunch and was the 1st to teach me how to make wind on's. Glad he knew how to do it right as they have produced many cows for me.

I will truly miss him. God Bless

Harvey was a gentleman and truly one of the great guys.

I hope I can find out about the services.

How truly sad. I fished with him only once, on my first ten-day on the Qualifier. Truly odd, I find it, that he has been in my thoughts the last week or so. Someone, please post news of any services.
Fair seas, gentle breezes sir.

Yeah, that was the trip. Like a football field of albacore boiling all around the boat, that last night's bite, except the tuna had yellow fins and weighed 250 pounds. Walk into the galley on a travel day and Harvey was at table 5, taking everyone's money. Except Dewercs, Mr. 4 Aces. I have to go to south-central around noon, maybe I can make it to the services. I will try.

Harvey was a good guy. I met and fished with him only one time, but it was memorable. Q105 15 day March 2005 Hurricane Bank, with my kid bro John(Serenity Now). My first trip over 8 days. Harvey was so willing to share his knowledge about knots, crimps, leaders, etc. I'll never forget the PINK CROCS he was wearing on that trip. Damn Cancer. Condolences to his family and friends from Rich on TAXFREE

re: Great friend Passed Harvey "The Hook" Seagal

They laid Harvey "the Hook" to rest yesterday.
That in itself seemed unusal to me, because Harvey struck me as a "scatter my ashes at sea" kind of guy.

It was a blazing hot sun beating down on the handful of us who arrived around 11 a.m.
Naturally, Harvey was late to his own funeral.
The procession was coming from the Inland Empire or Riverside I think I heard someone say. I had visited him at his home in Lake Elsinore last January, he was still pretty spry, so I'm guessing that's where they were coming from.

I shared some fishing stories with the folks while we were waiting there, and I got the impression, that some of them, weren't aware of just how great a fisherman their Harvey was.

This was going to be my first Jewish funeral. Harvey had never struck me as a religious guy, but I'm guessing it was something he had buried deep inside of him at an early age. Maybe at the end, facing his mortality, he re-lit that fire??

About 11:30 the procession arrived and someone pointed out Harvey's ninety something old Mother. That's rough.
The rabbi spoke about Harvey, you could tell right away the rabbi wasn't an angler, but he knew Harvey's spirit.

Someone had printed these posts and as the rabbi read them, he did his best to clean them up for a family audience.

After some prayers were said, they lowered him in the ground, his wife & son sprinkled some sacred earth from Israel on his casket, the rest of the folks tossed a handful of dirt on his grave.

I slid out the back, and headed back to work, thinking about a great man and some great times as I drove back to the office.

Shalom.
